A variety of insects begin to emerge this time of the year. Among those are ants, beetles, carpenter ants, earwigs, flies, fleas, spiders, ticks, and wasps. You may be seeing more insect activity in and around your house. Hiring a Pest Control specialist is an important part of controlling insect activity, but there are some DIY steps you can take to help prevent these nasty pests from invading your home and ruining your tranquility.

Seal cracks and openings to the exterior of your home

Add screens or replace damaged screens to windows and attic vents

Treat your pets (even outdoor pets) with flea and tick medicines

Pick up your pet's food when not feeding

Vacuum any stray lady beetles you may find wandering around

Keep food tightly sealed, thoroughly clean up spills and do not leave food sitting out for an extended period of time

Remove rotting mulch from mulch beds and replace with fresh mulch or decorative rock

Place wood piles further from your home (spiders love wood piles too!)
